PULSE ::: encore
With the goal of simultaneously expanding my presence as a dancer to that of a choreographer and composer, I am developing an approach that combines dance with real-time composition. With the help of software and technology, an immediate interface between body and machine is being created.

How::: With the support of sensors, the machine recognizes patterns and combines them with the dancer's movement data. The machine "watches" the rehearsals and responds by expressing a musical representation.

In order to simultaneously "translate" these movements to music across media in real time, I am creating a specific meta-vocabulary that will first be established through processes of improvisation, annotation, and classification.

These abstract symbols will allow the extraction of rhythmic patterns, gestures and movement qualities, which will be mapped in order to generate composition methods for future live performances.

The long-term goal, which goes beyond the scope of this research, is to create a platform for exchange and collaboration that generates shared knowledge and experimental paradigms in dance praxis, music and computer science.
